Chertsey slab is a typeface inspired by the encaustic tiles found at Chertsey abbey,Chertsey Abbey is the only known monastery which created typographic tiles from the 13th century. I took inspiration from the unique terminals and Lombardic influences. this typeface reinterprets that medieval craft into a modern slab serif.

The type is homage to the heritage and influence Chertsey Abbey had upon craft culture within England, the Abbey was sadly destroyed in 1537, due to King Henry VIII dissolution of the monasteries.
